Funding & Funding Requests
Each year, Classic City Rotary budgets funds from its membership fees and fundraising activities to support local nonprofits. Usually, club donations are finalized by the Board during annual budget development in late spring; however, our Philanthropy Subcommittee also entertains mid-year requests for small amounts of “just in time” funding that relate to our areas of focus and annual priorities.
Examples of organizations receiving financial contributions or sponsorships from Classic City Rotary include Nuci’s Space; the Athens Youth Symphony; WUGA; the Wild Rumpus; Athens Area Diaper Bank; and U-LEAD.
Each year, Classic City Rotary also applies for matching funding from District 6910’s District Grants program to take on a unique initiative at a higher dollar value while also providing hands-on service opportunities for our club.
Recent District-Grant funded activities have included supporting LoveCraft’s work; providing art and music supplies for classrooms at JJ Harris Elementary School; installing a soccer field and outdoor classroom spaces at JJ Harris Elementary; landscaping grounds for Acceptance Recovery Center; renovating office spaces at the Athens Area Homeless Shelter; and enhancing warehouse infrastructure at Books for Keeps.
